I HAVE

JOHN MCINTOSH

I have lingered on the edge

Of eternity’s jagged mouth,

Toyed with the demise

Of the mortal coil

And withdrawn, again and again

The desperate hold

Of dreaming’s grasp

Is a formidable opponent

In the long steep climb

To Freedom’s mount

Giving up

Must become

Giving in

Or the terrible cliff of destruction

Will demand your timid claim

This essential surrender

Is the slim but unbreakable

Cord that ties

Its slender thread

To Life’s breath

Until the cry

Goes up

Of victory

And Freedom’s soft embrace

Drowns the imposter in ITs Love
