'IN' THE DREAM - NOT 'OF' IT

JOHN MCINTOSH

What does the often repeated saying: “Being IN the world but not OF it” mean?

The universe-world is a dream-illusion projected on the screen of Consciousness [another name for Who You Really Are - the ONE SELF]. The SELF is both fully Aware of Who IT ‘is’ as well as capable of being immersed in the dream [that is - forgetting Who IT ‘is’, a Divine Dichotomy]. This forgetful immersion allows IT to ‘fully experience’ IT SELF. When IT slumbers in the dream IT is both ‘IN’ everything projected on the screen of Consciousness [including the ‘you’ called a person], as well as identifying ‘with’ these projections or ‘OF’ the dream … believing this or that ‘is’ IT.

IT is this identification that causes suffering due to the belief in separation and the inevitable ‘resistance’ to circumstances it does not want as a result of that belief. But it also allows IT to savor every conceivable ‘contrast’. When this identification ceases through the desolation of the conditioning that manifests the dream, the illusion can no longer molest the SELF as IT is no longer ‘OF’ the dream.
