SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT VS AUTHENTICITY

JOHN MCINTOSH

A well-known concept in spiritual communities including religion is ‘spiritual discernment’, which is supposed to offer the facility of reviewing circumstances in a non-judgmental manner provided by some sort of ‘inner guidance’ [by any name]. While the ‘intention’ behind this is honorable it still points to ‘separation’ [the foundation of dreaming], because it states that there IS someone being ‘guided’ to observe in a so-called ‘neutral’ manner.

There IS only the ONE SELF … there IS no ‘you’ in the sense of a ‘body-mind-identity’ most call ‘me’’. Virtually ALL so-called ‘paths’ speak of getting better, acquiring spiritual knowledge, improving, even ‘ascending’, but then again … this also points to an ‘entity called ‘me’ that is somehow ‘becoming’ so good that it ‘qualifies’ for some lofty realm called heaven or some kind of ‘higher spiritual consciousness’. This belief permeates most spiritual traditions and can be repeated through many incarnations [also dreams], before departed from.

Genuine AUTHENTIC ‘knowing’ is the natural state of the ONE SELF You Are. It does NOT have to be learned – only ‘revealed’ as an ever-Present Truth. The ONE SELF is Nothing-ness with infinite potential. IT/YOU ‘ is Empty and ‘knows’ when required - spontaneously and without thought or analysis of any kind. The only criteria for this state, which is True Freedom, Love, Joy, Abundance and Peace, is for this illusion of ‘me-ness’ to dissolve. This idea of ‘you’ that evolves must dissolve and this is why ALL knowledge gained in the dream world most call reality is called ‘learned ignorance’ [Ramana].
