THE SHADOW DANCER

JOHN MCINTOSH

Deep within the

Dream of separation

The shadow dancer

Steps between

The cracks of illusion

Fading in and out

Of littleness and limitation

The steps are awkward

Fearful and cautious

Such is the hesitation

Born of fear, doubt and confusion

Streaks of Light

Are judged suspiciously

While shadows

Dominate the rhythm

Of the dreaming-dance

The dancer must fall

Again and again

Before the Light

Is embraced as

A welcome alternative

To the shadows

Eons pass

Before the Light

Is deemed a friend

Dissolving the shadows

While the music

Of Freedom swells.
